Just Don’t Bite

I’ve read about these wonderful little challenges several times and always wondered if I was capable of doing them. Those goofy things where people do eating challenges for a month to see how little they can spend. Well April is almost here so perhaps trying one of these little challenges will be fun. Given that as of right now I’ve almost ate my cupboards bare it seems like a great time to do this. Problem is I’m finding conflicting information on just how I should go about setting what my limit will be. According to USDA page I’m allotted $96 per person. That’s kinda odd if that’s for a month. Now according to the Nebraska HHS page I’d be allotted a max of $200 in food stamp monies.

Why even if these are per month I almost find them to be a wasted challenge due to the fact that I spend roughly $100 at the store for a month worth of groceries as is. I do how ever eat a fair amount of gas station and fast food. So for the month of April I shall have to cut them out. Then if we average SNAP average with the max of the Nebraska one I get $148 for the month. Or $37 a week for food or $5.28 a day for food. No I will NOT be counting alcohol in this, only food. This gives me until Wednesday to start planning my meals and my shopping list. Given that I do enjoy cooking and have come across countless many recipies for different ways to cook some rather tastey food. The only holiday that I have to worry about is Zombie Jesus day, I’m usually the one that brings a dish or two so that may make for an obstacle.

Hey if nothing else it’ll give me something to do and that’s always a plus.

Recently my fair little chunk of idiot space decided that BB guns are bad. That we should tighten the laws regarding them. Of course our fair idiots decided to enact the law. If you read it you’ll probably see the issues with the new law fairly quick. Biggest one being is that it’s feel good bullshit. Of course today there is a nice article pointing out some arrests connected to some busted out windows. If you read that article you’ll notice that the criminals in question actually avoided triggering this new law. How so? They simply tossed the BB guns out the window. So yes, they’re in trouble, but they won’t be charged with the having a loaded BB gun in the car.

Now what does this have to do with polls you ask? Well if you read the comments you’ll notice that someone trots up this little stat from a poll: 68% APPROVE OF THE NEW WEAPONS BAND CODE CHANGE — 32% DONT APPROVE. Really? From an internet poll (I’m guessing on the newspaper site). Looking at the poll archive it seems that around 300 people is a safe bet for the number of poll takers. This is in a city of 40k. On the plus side it doesn’t seem to keep your vote track by IP addy so that means that most can vote in an office. Also this don’t count people who DON’T vote on the site. But hey if the commenter wants to use that as a trot out of the “justice” of democracy I’ll gladly run a poll asking if we should thump him in the head and see how many votes it gets from a biased narrow section of people.

Oh yeah… and I’ll figure out the poll method here in a few. Before you could vote once every few hours, not bad but was IP based. The new one isn’t so you can have several people in an office vote. Must be cookie based. I’ll be back with more info later. EDIT: It’s not cookie based, but does appear to be IP based some what in that it’s still the same as it was before.

In an effort to justify having a twitter account since June’07 at some point in the next week I’m going to over use the damn thing. In the process of this I will make it a point to change my icon thing. Maybe I’ll take a picture of my big toe or something, maybe I’ll try and contort my leg around and get one of my ankle. I dunno. But the main thing is I WILL use it, or try very very hard, for 24 hours with as many updates as I can. If nothing else it will do several things for me, none of which matter to anyone else. But hey, it’ll keep me occupied and thats imporant right?

I think I have a plan. It’s a really simple plan. It involves two rather archaic devices. One being a pen, the other being paper. Every day I’m going to TRY and keep a list of things I need and want to get done. Should be fairly simple. I blame my sister for this idea though, she is one of those highly organized people that really seems to have her shit together.

Frankly I give the pen and paper a day or two before I just dig up a dry erase marker and start using the whiteboard next to the toilet.

So tonight was kind of amusing. Did some software research. Bought some software. Did some thinking. Problem is I can’t think at home, WAY to many distractions. So I went to the Glass. A few pages of notes later and I have some good ideas, and some great conversations. Get home decide to check the news and such. Naturally I check Digg as one of the fun ones. Where I come across an evil link.

Now what would I of all people call a link evil? After all I’ve sent people to LemonParty, to Goatse, KidsInASandBox, and more. Please feel free to Google them or go to them. But honestly NONE of those sites where worse than this one. Now don’t get me wrong, for some people seeing a gaping turd hole is bad. For others seeing geriatric porn is bad. Others still don’t want to see a vibrator shoved down a dudes pee hole. But for me what is bad is having to install an Apple plug in that wants to rape all my file extentions. I tend to watch a rather odd amount of shows. Without a doubt one of my favorite search terms on Binsearch is “documentary“. For no other reason than the amount of interesting stuff out there to watch. Of course while I wish I could watch every episode of Modern Marvels, thats a bit much. It is 14 season and close to 530 episodes. Anyhow while looking for something to watch I found one that also included one of my favorite things, boobies. Granted it was about the ruining of these wonderful devices, but about boobies all the same.

I love my cell phones usually. I hate my current cell phone with a passion, it’s an LG Glimmer. I really liked my Motorola V9m (razr2), unfortunately in a drunken stupidity I decided that it’d look better in 3 pieces. This of course led me to Alltel at a bright and early time the next day. I’m really picky about my phones and how they work. I loved my Treo, how it dialed, how it interfaced, how it worked. I loved my V9m, and that was my first flip phone ever. The Glimmer, I hate it. I hate it and it’s crappy touch screen and the pain of dialing something. However I think I found my next phone, the Palm Pre. The sucky part is that it’s going to be a 3 month exclusive for Sprint. I dunno if Alltel or Verizon will get the phone… hell I dunno if I’ll be Alltel or Verizon after a certain point.

HTML, CSS, JavaScript… wow, now that is a GREAT way to allow for apps to be designed on a cellphone.

For those that say “just get an iPhone”. No.  I will not. For one AT&T don’t cover my town, also I would have to jailbreak the thing for any good use of it. Oh and I LIKE BUTTONS DAMNIT! Seriously though a Palm Pre would likely encourage me to be a little bit more active on social networks. In other words I’d subject myself to the digital AIDS that is Facebook.

Yes, I lust for tech toys. Currently it’s the Palm Pre. It’s not a brick with glass buttons. It’s a fucking cell phone that’s open and easy to design or develop for. Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to go clean my shorts.

As such this is basic a “gripe session” about the wonderful crap I get to deal with when it comes to computers. I want some, I want some, I want some. Why? Well go read the write up on it. It is missing one of the things that I’m sure you’ve all become used to, that is HFCS. These will have REAL SUGAR in them. For anyone that has ever had Coke from a glass bottle, usually from a store in an ethnic area, it really does taste a helluva lot better. Heck for that matter if you’ve ever slugged down a few Jones Sodas you know the same taste. It’s just different, it’s good. I can’t wait.

Saw this picture over at Gizmodo today. Of course there is a story to this picture and it comes from MagnetNerd. For those that are weak of stomach, you might want to avoid that link. On the other hand if the pictures showing why you do not allow two very high powered magnets to get within 20 inches of each other, then by all means.

Yeah, while I would like to have some of these magnets, it would not end well. I’ve had my fingers pinched by careless play with harddrive magnets and gotten some nice little blood blisters. However these bad boys are clearly capable of smashing your finger tips and ripping the nail off. But hey, the best kinds of toys are the ones you have to watch out for right? Thats why the old school lawn darts are so much cooler.

Also if I’m reading this right, the square magnet here is more powerful than the ones used in Mythbusters. The circular one being about the same power.
